Avoca River

Museums and Galleries
Charlton Golden Grains Museum Sandbags and black bags applied on Friday. The meeting room is still in use for research and indexing but the main collection packed away, as their big room has only just dried out from the September 2010 floods when they packed and stored most of the collection off the floor.

Flood damage to building sustained and about 10% of their collection. Approx. 2 1/2 feet of water in the museum - 90% of their objects were already on tables (they'd just moved them back into the museum after a white ant problem). They have around 20 wet and soggy photo albums as well as maps and some other items. Buying plastic tubs to move the wet items. No power yet. Lots of mud - very slippery, so they're just letting it dry out. Lots of water still underneath the building.

Estimate of damage: 20 albums, maps, VHS tapes, cassettes.

PROV has provided assistance and supplied archival boxes and other materials. Boxes being relocated.

Barwon

Libraries
Corangamite Regional Library Corporation Sandbagging saved the new Colac Library from flooding for the second time since opening in October last year. No other branches have been adversely affected by the floods.
Historical Societies
Camperdown and District Historical Society They haven't been affected by floods, but the rains have caused the springs under the building to rise up. Big problems with mould. Need pump.

Boort Lake

Historical Societies
Skipton Historical Society Cabinet with a small collection of world war two items and a uniform affected, but they managed to save most of them. Washed down uniform and set to dry cleaners. Seems to have been a lot of volumes, photographs etc affected but not sure about quantities. Concerned about a particular set of 6-8 volumes which have been wrapped in plastic and frozen.
Museums and Galleries
Skipton Art Gallery Have lost some of their collection. 90% of collection may be damaged. 10% could be okay. Water was in the museum for three days. Items mostly irreplaceable. May be able to salvage some acrylics and oil paintings. Artists have been very understanding. Don't require any supplies.

Campaspe River

Historical Societies
Rochester Historical and Pioneer Society 2.6 foot of water through museum. Echuca Historical Society helping out. Collection moved next door. 2 pallets of wet stuff moved to Echuca - to be stored in a freezer at a big food place. All wrapped in glad wrap first.

Don't require any immediate assistance, but will need expertise 2-3 months down the track when they start to take stuff out of the freezers.

Libraries
Goldfields Library Corporation All branches unaffected apart from some minor rain damage at Kyneton branch. Kyneton Library suffered some relatively minor water damage last week and was closed for two days. All other branches in the Goldfields region are operating as per normal.
Campaspe Regional Library Material for the flooded Rochester library has been relocated to the Lockington Community Centre, which will act as a service point for the foreseeable future.

The Rochester Branch of Campaspe Regional Library will be closed until further notice due to the floods, although we do have some access to the library and do not seem to have suffered any stock loss thanks to shifting stock up on Friday - mainly the carpets have suffered.

Echuca Branch is fine and dry and operating as normal.

Goldfields

Historical Societies
Kyneton Museum and Historical Society A few leaks in the ceiling of the laundry, toilets and preparation room. The water damage from the chimneys in the laundry and kitchen has affected displays. The grit on the walkways in the grounds has been washed away and will need significant repair works.

Central Highlands Regional Library Service Flooding has not caused any damage to libraries in Central Highlands Regional Library area - but it came close at Clunes with sandbags saving the library.

Libraries were closed on Friday at Beaufort, Ararat, Maryborough, Creswick, Daylesford and Clunes. In many cases staff were unable to get to work and roads were cut. Clunes, Creswick and Beaufort were most at risk.

Museums and Galleries
Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society Over 2 metres of water has destroyed paper records and photographs. DPCD local teams phoning around additional Goldfields collecting organizations and have Erica's and MA (Vic)'s contact details.

Libraries
Gannawarra Shire Council Library Service No libraries currently flooded. Main township of Kerang is under threat of flooding from the Loddon River, but expectation at this stage is that Kerang will be marooned rather than actually flooded. As a precaution only, library staff are packing-up the most valuable and irreplaceable collection items (e.g.: local history collection). From tomorrow (Tuesday) Kerang Library will operate minimum service with minimum staff but will remain open, as the library is both an information and evacuation point for the local community.

Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery Moved the permanent collection to safer higher ground.

Landsborough and District Historical Group Inc Collection all fine. Computers may have been damaged by rain entering through an open window. Would like some information on disaster prevention and management.

Arapiles Historical Society Affected by floods last week and collection was stored in a container in the shire office yard. Help with museum building needed as different advice received about reparation of cracked walls etc. Have offered support for this and priority clear-up once they've had time to review.
Stawell Historical Society No flooding there or at Glenorchy. Pledged temporary storage assistance for nearby collections if helpful, e.g. Halls Gap Historical Society but not Horsham as road blocked. Mainly concerned about Horsham Historical Society as water expected to affect them later today (Monday).
